TrueType Variations was developed at Apple Computer in the early 1990's, during the height of the "Font Wars", as a response to Adobe's Multiple Master font format. This incredibly powerful format briefly flourished as a design tool, before dying in the marketplace for a host of reasons. Renewed interest by designers and software developers alike has resulted in a rebirth of sorts. This talk will discuss lessons learned, current capabilities and limitations of Variations, and will conclude with a vision for what the future of this exciting technology could bring.
